  1. Get a good education
  2. Be prepared to get your account wiped out at least once
  3. Find out what sort of trader you are
  4. Write a good trading plan which you need to stick and will evolve over many months as you learn and develop skills
  5. Learn how to manage risk and always place stops
  6. Never stop learning
  7. Don’t give up, it takes time

 

My key learning from the early years is that it is important to get the best education that you can.

OTA encourages you to start with paper money, I couldn’t do this as it didn’t seem real so just got on with it and took the knocks for real, my advice to you is learn with paper money it really is less painful and smarter.

It takes time, probably up to 18-24 Months two years to get a little a little competent, make sure you have the resources to either learn to trade part-time as I think it is tough to make a real living in any less than two years
